This course develops the students ability to read effectively, to use
language efficiently, and to think logically. The content includes but is not
limited to vocabulary development, usage and mechanics instruction, oral and
written applications of persuasive topics, and college preparatory reading.
This course prepares students for AP courses, ACT, PSAT, and SAT examinations.
It is recommended for second semester 10th grade students.
5145 (10083200) SAT PREPARATION -ADVANCED COMMUNICATION

+ Note: Combined with SAT Math Prep
This course develops advanced reading skills for students who plan to continue
their formal education after high school. The content emphasizes vocabulary,
comprehension, study skills, and test-taking skills and will develop these areas
relative to the demands of the SAT and ACT requirements. The content should
include, but not be limited to, instruction in writing, vocabulary, comprehension
(literal, inferential and evaluative) as well as develop critical thinking and
analytical skill. The methods of study and test-taking are examined, and individual
methods suiting each student are developed.

MATH PREP

+ Prerequisite: Algebra Ia and Algebra Ib, Algebra I or Algebra I Honors, and
Geometry
+ Note: This is a college prep course, elective credit (Does not satisfy Math
graduation requirement.) Paired with SAT Prep
SAT Math Prep is a course designed to help students prepare for the SAT Math
Section. This course will run nine weeks only and will be combined with SAT
Communications Prep. Topics will cover the Algebraic Thinking, Quantitative
Comparison, Geometrical/Spacial Thinking, and Arithmetic Computation. Students
will also learn test-taking skills and how the test is scored. Students must
already have three math credits including Algebra I and Geometry.
