Creative Writing I is a course which develops writing and language skills needed
for individual expression in literary forms. This course includes instruction
in the development and practice of writing a variety of literary works, including
original poetry, short stories and plays, as well as other fiction and nonfiction.

The purpose of this course is to give students an introduction to the basic
techniques employed in writing a play for the stage. The course is designed
to integrate lecture, discussion and writing so that the student is familiar
with the basic principles and vocabulary of dramatic writing. The content includes
understanding the special demands of writing for performance; extensive practice
in writing dialogue to provide character motivation, advance action, and give
exposition; student writing of monologues, dialogues, scenes and plays; and
preparation of individual original manuscripts for possible publication.

Journalism I provides introductory instruction in aspects of journalism and
workshop experience in journalistic production. Instruction will be given in

This course provides practical experience in news gathering techniques and practice
in journalistic writing, as well as opportunities to explore careers in journalism.
Students will receive frequent practice in gathering information and in writing

for publication in journalistic media will occur within a workshop setting.

Journalism III provides intermediate instruction in writing and production skills
related to various journalistic media. The content stresses instruction and
practice in applying all aspects of the writing process, including pre-writing,
drafting, editing, and proofreading, of written work prepared according to journalistic
standards. Organization and management techniques will be stressed.

Television Production I develops introductory skills in television production.
The content includes television production and the production team, the history
of television and its role as an element of mass media, television as a career,
writing for television, and the use of the basic equipment used in television.

skill development in writing, planning, directing and recording television packages.
Use of equipment such as audio boards, editors, special effects generators,
and graphics are included.

Introduction to Film and Entertainment course provides an introduction to all
of the many aspects, roles, and careers associated with the film and entertainment
industries. The content should include an overview of the many facets of television,
film, and entertainment production, but is not limited to, the following: technical
terminology as applied to television, film, and entertainment, the role and
influence of television, film, and entertainment in history, culture, and society,
and individual lifestyles; collaborative work ethic for television, film, and
entertainment; connection between television, film, and entertainment and other
subject areas; production techniques for television, film, and entertainment;
vocational and recreational pursuits in television, film, and entertainment;
and analysis, evaluation, and critiquing of television, film, and entertainment
production and design.
